What Surah Baqarah says about Fasting?

Ayah 183 to 187 of Chapter 2 ( Surah Al-Baqara) of the Holy Quran talks about Fasting as follows:

O you who believe, the fasts have been enjoined upon you as they were enjoined upon those before you, so that you may be God-fearing, (183)

For days few in number. However, should any one of you be sick or on a journey, then (he should fast) a number of other days (equal to the missed ones); and those who have the strength, (still, they do not opt for fasting,) on them there is a fidyah (compensation), that is, the feeding of a poor person.

Then whoever does good voluntarily, that is better for him. However, that you fast is better for you, if you only knew. (184)

The month of Ramadan is the one in which the Qur’an was revealed as guidance for mankind, and as clear signs that show the right way and distinguish between right and wrong. So those of you who witness the month must fast in it. But the one who is sick, or is on a journey (should fast) as much from other days (as he missed). Allah intends (to provide) ease for you and does not intend (to create) hardship for you. All this is so that you may complete the number (of fasts as prescribed) and proclaim the Takbir of Allah for having guided you, and (so) that you may be grateful. (185)

When My servants ask you about Me, then (tell them that) I am near. I respond to the call of one when he prays to Me; so they should respond to Me, and have faith in Me, so that they may be on the right path. (186)

It is made lawful for you, in the nights of fasts, to have sex with your women. They are apparel for you, and you are apparel for them. Allah knows that you have been betraying yourselves, so He relented towards you and pardoned you. So now you can have sexual intimacy with them and seek what Allah has destined for you and eat and drink until the white thread of the dawn becomes distinct from the black thread; then complete the fast up to the night. But do not have sexual intimacy with them while you are staying in mosques for I‘tikaf. These are the limits set by Allah, so do not go near them. Thus Allah manifests His signs to the people, so that they may be God-fearing. (187)

Who is the Righteous Man?

Ayah 177 of Chapter 2 of the Holy Quran states:

It is not righteousness that ye turn your faces towards East or West; but it is righteousness―to believe in Allah and the Last Day and the Angels and the Book and the Messengers; to spend of your substance out of love for Him, for your kin, for orphans for the needy, for the wayfarer for those who ask and for the ransom of slaves; to be steadfast in prayer and practise regular charity; to fulfil the contracts which ye have made; and to be firm and patient in pain (or suffering) and adversity and throughout all periods of panic. Such are the people of truth the Allah-fearing. (177)

Halal Food

Ayah 172 to 173 of Chaper 2 ( Surah Al-Baqara) of the Holy Quran talks about Halal food. :)

O you who believe, eat of the good things We have provided to you and be grateful to Allah, if it is He whom you worship (in real terms). (172) He has only prohibited for you carrion, blood, the flesh of swine and that upon which a name of someone other than ‘Allah’ has been invoked.  Then, whoever is compelled by necessity, neither seeking pleasure nor transgressing, there is no sin on him. Verily, Allah is Most-Forgiving, Very-Merciful. (173)

Signs of Allah

Ayah 164 of Chapter 2 ( Surah Al-Baqara) of the Holy Quran states:

Surely, in the creation of heavens and earth,

 Image

and the alternation of night and day,

 Image

and the ships that sail in the sea, carrying that which benefits men,

 Image

and in the water Allah sent down from the sky, then revived with it the earth after it was dead, and in every creature He has scattered on it,

 Image

and in turning of winds, and in the clouds employed to serve between heaven and earth,

 Image

there are signs for those who have sense. (164)

Allah shall try us with Fear, Hunger, Wealth, Lives and Crops

And surely We shall try you with something of fear and hunger, and loss of wealth and lives and crops; but give glad tidings to the steadfast, (155) Who say, when a misfortune striketh them: Lo! we are Allah’s and lo! unto Him we are returning. (156) Such are they on whom are blessings from their Lord, and mercy. Such are the rightly guided. (157)

Dhikr, Patience and Prayer

If we forget Allah and all that He has enjoined upon us, He will forget us. Don’t we say out of sight, out of mind as well? Therefore, we need to remember Allah every second by thanking Him for all His blessings, and by doing Dhikr (remembrance of Allah) and through supplication and prayer.

And then Allah mentions the two important P’s again: Patience and Prayer- regular practice of which will bring us closer to Allah and make us steadfast in our worship of Allah, the exalted.

Relevant Translation below:

Ayah 152 and 153 of Surah Al-Baqara of the Holy Quran.

Therefore remember Me, I will remember you. Give thanks to Me, and reject not Me. (152) O ye who believe! Seek help in steadfastness and prayer. Lo! Allah is with the steadfast. (153)

Sibghat-ul-Allah ( Colour of Allah)

(We take our) colour from Allah, and who is better than Allah at colouring. We are His worshippers. (138)

I love this Ayah ( line) No. 138 from Chapter 2 of Surah Al-Baqara of the Holy Quran. May our beings be tainted with the colour of Allah and may our souls be painted and coloured with manners, way of living and actions most pleasing to Allah. Ameen.
